Introducing Music Notes
Introducing Music Notes
Welcome to Music Notes, the part of Chip McCain Music where the set list gets tossed aside and I get to talk about whatever happens to be rattling around in my head.
This is where you’ll find announcements about upcoming shows, updates about the website, thoughts on what’s happening in the music business, and the occasional observation about an industry that has somehow survived eight-tracks, disco, cassette tapes, hair metal, Napster, Auto-Tune, streaming, and musicians being told that “exposure” is apparently a perfectly acceptable form of payment.
I’ve spent a lot of years around stages, studios, nightclubs, musicians, sound guys, club owners, road crews, audiences, agents, questionable dressing rooms, broken cables, late-night diners, and enough load-ins to permanently ruin anyone’s enthusiasm for stairs. Along the way, I’ve collected a few stories, a few opinions, and probably more useless music trivia than any responsible adult should have.
Welcome to The Lounge
Which brings us to The Lounge.
The Lounge is where the adult supervision ends.
Think of it as the backstage room after the last set, when the gear is packed, the crowd has gone home, somebody is looking for the missing guitar stand, and the conversation has drifted into territory that has absolutely nothing to do with the original subject.
I might talk about music. I might tell a road story. I might rant about some modern piece of technology that supposedly makes life easier while requiring six passwords, three apps, and a firmware update. I might reminisce about the days when musicians actually carried amplifiers that weighed roughly the same as a Buick. Or I might just discuss some completely random bullshit because, quite frankly, it amused me at the time.
No Long-Term Strategic Plan
There are no editors standing by.
There is no corporate communications department.
And there is almost certainly no long-term strategic plan.
